The Planning Committee is accepting proposals for workshops for the 2017 West Coast Symposium, Cape Cod Symposium and the CORE conference . Workshop proposals should focus on emerging and important issues facing the addiction treatment and recovery communities.
Target Audiences/Topics: Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists, Mental Health Counselors, Alcohol/Drug Educators, Military Topics (WCSAD only), Recovery Advocates, Marriage &Family Therapists, Employee Assistance Professionals (Workplace issues), & Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender.
The number of workshops may be decreased so we will have limited slots available. It is the Planning Committee’s policy to rotate faculty every 2-4 years. We appreciate your past support look forward to an even more successful future with your continued support.
Please be sure to submit all requested information or the Committee will be unable to accept your proposal. All submissions must be submitted through the online Faculty Management System. Emailed applications will not be accepted. However, if you are having difficulty uploading a CV or photo, please feel free to email us those attachments and we will upload those for you.
Please note that your application is not “submitted” until you select the “SUBMIT” button at the end of the process.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS WHEN SUBMITTING YOUR PROPOSAL.
The entire CCSAD and WCSAD programs are presented to the following credentialing bodies for CE approval: MFT, APA, ACCME, EAPA/EACC, NASW, Nursing Board, NBCC and others. There are specific guidelines to keep in mind when presenting your submission in order to meet those guidelines. The most stringent, the APA and the ACCME are listed here for your review.
APA Method, Theory, Research or Practice Form
APA requires that programs presented be based on a methodological, theoretical, research, or practice knowledge base. This requirement must be met by at least one of the following:
- Program content has obtained credibility, as demonstrated by the involvement of the broader psychological practice, education, and science communities in studying or applying the findings, procedures, practices, or theoretical concepts.
- Program content has been supported using established research procedures and scientific scrutiny;
- Program content has peer reviewed, published support beyond those publications and other types of communications devoted primarily to the promotion of the approach
- Program content is related to ethical, legal, statutory or regulatory policies, guidelines, and standards that impact psychology.
The Cape Cod Symposium follows the Institute of Medicine’s Core Competencies as well as the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) the in formulating its curriculum objectives
- Provide patient-centered care – identify, respect, and care about patients’ differences, values, preferences, and expressed needs; relieve pain and suffering; coordinate continuous care; listen to, clearly inform, communicate with, and educated patients; share decision making and management; and continuously advocate disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of health lifestyles, including a focus on population health.
- Work in interdisciplinary teams – cooperate, collaborate, communicate, and integrate care in teams to ensure that care is continuous and reliable.
- Employ evidence-based practice – integrate best research with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care, and participate in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.
- Apply quality improvement – identify errors and hazards in care; understand and implement basic safety design principles, such as standardization and simplification; continually understand and measure quality of care in terms of structure, process, and outcomes in relation to patient and community needs; and design and test interventions to change processes and systems of care, with the objective of improving quality.
- Utilize informatics – communicate, manage, knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making using information technology.
- Interpersonal and communication skills that result in effective information exchange and teaming with patients, their families, and other health professionals.
- Professionalism, as manifested through a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, and sensitivity to a diverse patient population.
The C4/ Symposium Planning Committee must review the planned content of a CME activity and demonstrate in documentation the base of evidence that any recommendations, treatments, and manners of practicing medicine promulgated in CME activities are efficacious in the care of patients. These “values”, taken from the ACCME Value Statements should be used in planning CME activities.
2.1.1 Data must be based on “evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine”
2.1.2 Materials used in CME must “conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis”.
2.1.3 Activities are not eligible for certification if they: (1) promote “recommendations, treatment, or manners of practicing medicine that are not within the definition of CME or are (2) known to have risks or dangers that outweigh the benefits or are (3) known to be ineffective in the treatment of patients.”
2.2 Definition of CME – C4/CCSAD/WCSAD adopts the following ACCME Definition of CME: “Continuing Medical Education (CME) is a process of learning that serves to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, professional performance, and relationships that physicians use in the care of patients. Learning activities that respond to a physician’s nonprofessional educational need or interest, such as personal financial planning or appreciation of literature or music for example, are not CME.”
C4 RECOVERY SOLUTIONS CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS PROCESS
We encourage faculty to submit several different topics if that is an option. Often we find that one topic is more heavily represented and would have selected another option if available. If that is the case, the faculty need only provide the title, description and goals and objectives for any additional workshops.
Call for Presentations Acceptance
Presentations are accepted all during the year
All presentation submissions will be acknowledged via email upon receipt.
The Planning Committee reviews the Proposals approximately nine months prior to the event. This allows time for any revisions and the lengthy submission process to apply for each of the CEUs. If any reviewers have questions about the proposals, C4 staff will contact those who submitted them.
All proposals received before the deadline will be reviewed according to specific criteria, including:
- Submission of all criteria requested in the Proposal Submission Requirements
- Relevance to attendees and session topic
- A well-defined topic with focused, action-oriented objectives
- Practical application of material
- Timeliness of topic
- Original material
- Overall perceived level and quality of session content
- Completeness of presentation proposal
- Speaker qualifications, including: previous presentations in topic area, participant evaluations of presenter(s) at previous events (if applicable) and speaking experience of presenter(s)
- Sponsorship availability or cost to C4 for the presentation
Sales pitches for products or services disguised as proposals will be eliminated.
C4 staff will notify submitters of the status of their WCSAD and CORE proposals by February and CCSAD submitters by March 1 of the event year. Submissions are held and reviewed at a Planning Committee meeting once a year for each conference.
Once all sessions have been selected, the C4 staff will gather all materials required from speakers (contract, photo, bio, AV needs, sponsorship information, handouts and permission to record, etc.).
On site, all presenters are required to check in at Speaker Registration.
- Promotion in electronic and print marketing materials
- Visibility, recognition and credibility within the industry at premier events
- New networking opportunities (your peers will acknowledge your expertise and experience)
- Participation in the growth of your profession and industry
If your presentation is selected you are required to:
- Register at as a Speaker/Faculty
- During your presentation, provide educational material ONLY and abide by C4’s policies and procedures (i.e. Non-Commercial Policy)
- Submit your bio, presentation, handouts, and AV support requirements by the deadline dates. If you require equipment or services beyond the standard setup provided in each session room, you must get approval and may be charged an additional fee. The standard set-up is: classroom or theater-style seating, LCD projector (which will display your uploaded presentation), screen and podium. (Microphone provided for plenary sessions) You must bring your own laptop
- Submit your handouts to C4 60 days before the conference. Handouts presented by this date will be reproduced and transported to the conference site at C4’s expense. C4 will not reproduce handouts on-site.
- Allow C4 to record your session.
- Check in on-site at Speaker Registration the onsite C4 Business Office to ensure that your final presentation is uploaded and displays properly with the AV equipment.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in cancellation of your session or no further invitations to participate.
The Planning Committee reserves the right to:
- Select any – or none – of the submissions. A proposal may be exceptional, but inconsistent with the goals of the program committee, duplicate another session, be too costly, or prove otherwise not acceptable.
- Change the length of time allotted to the presenter
- Make decisions based on limited meeting space
- Contact the applicants before, during and after the judging process for clarification
Any topic(s) in the addictions field are acceptable for consideration
